One of the confusing aspects of father's father side of the family was figuring out that we were not Vereschaks at all. My great-grandmother Kristina Michaelek 1878-1962 was married first to Pavel Holic and then to Josef Vereschak. This is her baptismal entry from the village of Myjava in present-day Slovak Republic. Her parents were Jan Michalci and Zuzanna Malek. Her godparents were Stefan Polak and Katerina Malek. Stefan was her great-uncle and Katerina, her aunt. Interestingly too, in 1878, this register is in Slovak. However, the same register pre-1867 (when all ethnic languages were first allowed to be used in the Austrian Empire), are in Latin.
