Jawbone Corner Cemetery [King's County, Nova Scotia]:
Capt. Peter Wickwire a native of New London, state of Connecticut who died Feb 2nd 1803 in the 79th year of his age. A Husband Kind, a parent dear A Worthy friend lies buried here.
Captain refers to his rank in the French & Indian War. I still need a photo of this gravestone as well as the one of his wife: Rhoda.
I notice you have a fair aount on Capt. Peter Wickwire. I am a decendant of his through Prudence Wickwire and James Martin. My Great great Garndfather was Peter their youngest. He married a Eunice Daniels who also had a New London connection. Their Son Darius was my Great Grandfather He and his mother Eunice moved to Deer Island New Brunswick sometime after Peter died as a result of injuries sustained in a ship yard acident in Hopewell Cape NB. He lived a facinating life and died in 1938 at the age of 91. I have part of his property where I spend a fair bit of time.
I was in New London last week (July 6th 2010) hoping to find something on the Wickwires but the historical society was closed that day.
I was curious to find out why Peter Wickwire left New London to become a Planter.
I am not sure if you still tend this page or not but would love to have a reply.

Im a descendant of James and Prudence (Wickwire) Martin too. See my page called abridge umbilical line. Ive done some detailed original research on the Wickwires. Im not sure I understand your question of why he became a Planter. Many of the soldiers of the French and Indian War took their land claims in Nova Scotia. It was a place where you could be given hundreds of acres for free. Im guessing he took the deal. Wouldnt you?
