One wouldn't think that Newton was such a common name. I have one and possibly two in my own ancestry. The first is the Rev. Roger Newton ca. 1620-1683. The other possibility is the wife of Kenelm Winslow, Ellen (---) ca. 1598-1681. Ellen Newton came on the Anne and first married John Adams and then Kenelm Winslow. An early 20th century genealogist said that it was unlikely that a single woman would have travelled alone and inferred that she was married, although there is no such record to indicate that. Today would have been my grandmother's 100th birthday. In my mind's eye I still see her like this: There are more pictures of her as she got older, but she's stuck in my memory like that. One more younger photo that I like too:
