Beyond the political ramifications of the above image, I was struck by how many states STILL allow first cousin marriages [half the country--25 states]. Such marriages were de rigeur in colonial times and up to the 19th century. Victoria and Albert were first cousins. I had just assumed that this practice had gone the way of the dodo bird in the 20th century.
