My father's family is Slovak Lutheran in all lines as far back as I have researched. However, my mother's side is quite the mixture of various strains of Christianity. I'm not sure how usual or unusual this is. Using my mother as no. 1 in the Ancestor Table and leaving out names, I'll supply life spans and the denomination into which they were born.
1. Congregational (living)
2. Congregational 1912-2007
3. Congregational 1915-1972
4. Free Will Baptist 1881-1950
5. Church of Scotland (Presbyterian) 1885-1918
6. Congregational 1888-1964
7. Congregational 1888-1959
8. Free Will Baptist 1843-1888: father Free Will Baptist, mother Congregational
9. Free Will Baptist 1851-1934: parents Congregational
10. Church of Scotland 1845-1904: parents Church of Scotland
11. Church of Scotland 1844-1931: parents Church of Scotland
12. Baptist 1847-1913: father Presbyterian, mother Baptist
13. Roman Catholic 1857-1926: parents Roman Catholic
14. Church of England (Episcopalian) 1855-1929: Father: Presbyterian; Mother: Church of Ireland
15. Wesleyan Methodist 1964-1930: Father: Wesleyan Methodist, Mother: Baptist
Eventually some of these morph into Quakers and the old Puritan church which was the forerunner of the Congregational Church. So at least for people in North America, the idea of a Christian denomination was more fluid than in Europe.
