I love seeing the searches that bring people into my little blog. It's the librarian in me. I, obviously, cannot find out the name or email of the searcher, I just see the search. Sometimes I want to cry out--stop! come back! I know that one! One such search last week was "pinkham family 1756 married soule." I know that one (I think).
I sent this correction into the authors of the latest George Soule five generation book in September of 2005:
I spotted an error in the George Soule pamphlet for fifth and sixth generations, part two: family numbers 350-464--specifically in family #370 (pp. 49-50), Jedediah and Mary (Pinkham) Soule. Mary is given as possibly the daughter of Tristram and Martha (Hayes) Pinkham. This cannot be. The names of their (that is Tristram and Martha's) children appear in the probate records of their grandfather, Samuel Hayes. My best identification for Mary's father is Benjamin4 (Thomas3 John2 Richard1) Pinkham:
Benjamin4 PINKHAM born about 1717 and died at Boothbay, Maine on 2 March 1792. He married about 1740, probably at Dover, Judith TIBBETTS, daughter of Ichabod4 (Samuel3 Jeremiah2 Henry1) and Abigail (Tibbetts) Tibbetts. [NEHGR 98:220. The will of Ichabod Tibbetts, dated 30 December 1746 and proven on 25 February 1746/7 certainly names his daughter Judith Pinkum (sic) at New Hampshire State Papers 33:419-421. That with this couple naming their eldest son Ichabod seems to prove this identification.] She was born at Dover on 15 May 1722 and died at Boothbay on 23 October 1797. Sinnett gives this couple seven children: Ichabod, Solomon, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Rhoda, Sarah, and Calvin. I would add another daughter Abigail who married James Crommet on 29 November 1764 at Townsend, Lincoln County, Maine. [FHL #1765424, Item 4, Court of Session, Commissioner's Record, 1761-1788.] I might venture to guess that Mary Pinkham born 25 July 1756 who married Jedediah Soule5 (Jedediah4 Moses3 John2 George1) at No. Yarmouth, ME on 7 November 1776 is also a child of Benjamin4. See: Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, Volume 3, George Soule (1980), p. 178. Benjamin’s descendants appear in the Pinkham Genealogy pp. 170-210.
