Tombstone Tuesday: Pavel and Anna (Kristofik) Dolinsky
Again from the Slovak Lutheran Cemetery in Nesquehoning, PA. "Kniha Zivota" translates as "Book of Life" which is the given iconography of this gravestone.

Slavery in New England
There's an interesting discussion going on over at Our Georgia Roots about genealogical research and slavery. I commented that I just recently posted the genealogical sketch of Samuel Wallis whose will shows that he owned a slave. I assumed that New Hampshire was like Massachusetts and slavery ended shortly after the American Revolution. I was wrong. New Hampshire had slavery until 1857. Jane Chase, wife of Samuel Wallis of New Castle, N.H.
It isn't much of a stretch to think that a woman who names a child Joseph Chase Wallace, might have been born a Chase. I saw an Internet site which noted that Jane, wife of Samuel Wallis, was born Jane Chase, the daughter of the Rev. Stephen Chase and his wife Jane Wingate. It seemed plausible, but no proof or even proof reasoning was provided, so I did that part myself. I'm convinced this identification is true. Jane Chase was born at Lynn, Mass. on 7 January 1739/40 and recorded as "Jenney" daughter of the Rev. Stephen4 (Joseph3 Aquila2-1) Chase....
