1. Robert Lay was born about 1617 and died 9 July 1689 at Saybrook, Connecticut. They say he is the brother of Edward and John Lay but his English origins have yet to be discovered. Robert married in December 1647 at Saybrook, Sarah (Fenner) Tully baptized 26 November 1615 at Horley, Surrey, England and died 25 May 1676 at Saybrook, Connecticut, daughter of Arthur and Sarah (Browne) Fenner and widow of John Tully. Sarah married John Tully on 17 October 1637 at Horley. They had two children: John and Sarah. Robert and Sarah also had two children: Phebe and Robert. Phebe married John Dennison, son of George and Ann (Borrodale) Dennison.
2. Robert Lay (Jr.) was born 6 March 1654 at Saybrook, Connecticut and died there before 20 November 1742. He married at Saybrook, 22 January 1679, Mary Stanton, born about 1660 at Stonington, Connecticut and died after 1743, daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Dennison) Stanton. Robert and Mary had nine children: Robert, Sarah, Mary, Thomas, Samuel, Temperance, Samuel, Phebe, and Dorothy.
3. Mary Lay was born 3 October 1685 at Saybrook, Connecticut and died after 1734. She married three times. First she married Christopher Minor on 9 March 1704 at Stonington, Connecticut, he the son of Joseph and Mary (Avery) Minor. Mary married about 1709, Samuel Denison, born September 1686 at Stonington and died 2 June 1724 at Saybrook, son of George and Mercy (Gorham) Denison [and her half first cousin once removed through the Denisons]. Mary married thirdly on 20 November 1733 at Westbrook, Connecticut, Charles Williams. By her second husband Mary was the mother of nine children: Sarah, Samuel, Elizabeth, Joanna, Mercy, George, Christopher, Stephen, and Gideon.
