This is another double descent family. Additionally, some researchers have tried to hook Richard up to the John Otis family of Hingham and Weymouth. Although that John Otis does have a son Richard baptized in England, that is the only record that could tie these two families together. No other tie has been found and therefore, I think that these are two separate families.
1. Richard Otis born say 1625 and killed by Native American on 28 June 1689 at Dover, New Hampshire. Richard married three times. His first wife was Rose Stoughton, baptized 22 November 1629 at Stoughton, Surrey, England and who died before 1677, daughter of Anthony and Agnes (Pierce) Stoughton. Rose's royal line is here. Richard married at Dover on 5 November 1677, Shuah (Starbuck) Heard born about 1627 and died before 1685, daughter of Edward and Katherine (Reynolds) Starbuck. Richard married lastly about 1685 Grizzel Warren born about 1662 and died at Montreal, Canada on 26 October 1750. She married secondly in Canada Philippe Robitaille after her capture by Native Americans. By his first wife, Richard had eight children: Stephen, Martha, Anne, Richard, Judith, Solomon, Experience, and Nicholas. By his third wife he had two children: Hannah and Margaret. Richard was a blacksmith.
2a. Stephen Otis was born about 1652 at Dover, New Hampshire and was killed there on 28 June 1689 in the same raid as his father. He married 16 April 1674 at Dover, Mary Pitman, born about 1656 at Boston, Massachusetts and died also in the raid of 28 June 1689 at Dover, daughter of William and Barbara (Evans) Pitman. Stephen and Mary had four children: Mary, Stephen, Rose, and Nathaniel.
2b. Martha Otis was born about 1654 at Dover, New Hampshire and died there after 1705. She married before June 1674, John Pinkham, born about 1644 and died after 1724 at Dover, son of Richard and Gylian (---) Pinkham. John Pinkham was a carpenter. He and Martha had nine children: Richard, Thomas, Amos, Solomon, James, Rose, Elizabeth, Otis, and Sarah. In the Pinkham Genealogy of 1908, Martha's name is given as Rose. This is a huge error.
3a. Mary Otis, daughter of Stephen and Mary (Pitman) Otis was born about 1672 at Dover, New Hampshire and died there before 1753. She married Ebenezer Varney, born about 1672 at Dover and died there November 1753, son of Humphrey and Sarah (Starbuck) Varney. Mary and Ebenezer were Quakers. They had thirteen children: Mary, Sarah, Stephen, Abigail, John, Ebenzer, Nathaniel, Thomas, Judith, Samuel, Martha, Paul and Anne.
