2021 When I first started genealogy in the 1970s as a teenager, the 19th century felt close by. My great-grandparents had just died in the 1950s and 1960s and were all born in the 1880s. I felt like I could touch them and be transported back to the 19th century without much trouble. My grandparents were all alive. Queen Victoria had died in 1901 just 60 years before my birth. Jerome Miranda 1943-2020 Now with 350,000 deaths due to COVID, there is hardly a person who doesn't know someone who's died of COVID. In this case, it's my father's first cousin. I knew him and he was a very nice man. It is extremely unfair for Jerome who was in perfect health before becoming infected. And genetically his mother lived to 97, so he had many years ahead of him. So his mother and my grandmother were sisters. RIP cousin Jerome.
