Twins don't run in my family. That being said when people say my family, they mean their immediate family. As a genealogist I mean my entire family going back several hundreds of years. Yet I have twin niece and nephew. They are not alone in my family.
- My great-grandmother's brother had a set of twins. I knew one of them well (he was my grandmother's first cousin). This is the closest occurrence of twins to my immediate family.
- Twins are genetic. My ancestors Smith Woodward and Thankful Pope had a set of twins: Ebenezer and Abigail in 1699. They also had my ancestor Thankful Woodward who married Nathaniel Spear, Jr. and they themselves had a set of twins: Moses and Elijah in 1720. So, you see that the mother of twins was also a sister of twins.
- My Scottish ancestors William Black and Isabel Cruickshanks had twins Sarah and John. I descend from Sarah and her parents are provisional. She was born in 1763.
- My ancestors Sir Lawrence Stoughton and his wife Rose Ive had a set of twins in 1587 (Henry and John). They had a total of 16 children together.
- My ancestor James Pinkham's first cousin John Pinkham had twins Joseph and Benjamin (and a total of 13 children).
- But the twin I descend from (that I know) is Adam Chodur (with his twin sister Eva Chodur), children of Pavel Chodur baptized on 19 February 1770 at Vrbovce, Slovakia. The Latin church records even use the term gemellus to note the twins.
