Brown is currently the fourth most common surname in the U.S. Researching that name brings a whole set of skills for genealogists. I, myself, am descended from three different Brown(e) families. This one probably has more to find and Abram is not the immigrant ancestor. This is only how far I've gotten. Certainly if I were to review the Quaker records at Swarthmore College for Loudoun County, Virginia, I could push this line back. This line may also have already been published but finding the correct Brown genealogy is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
This line comes from three separate newspaper sources: The obituary of Abram Brown (Jr.), the obituary of Abram Brown Sr. and the obituary of Isaac Moore Brown.
- Abram Brown, born say 1756 likely in Loudoun County, Virginia, a Quaker, died 1849 in Peoria Illinois. His wife's name is as of yet unknown. He had at least four children: Isaac Moore, Ellen, John, and Abram (Jr.).
- Abram Brown, Jr. born ca. 1806 at Alexandria, Virginia and died October 1876 at Leavenworth County, Kansas. He married first about 1827, Amanda Melvina Fitzallan Berkeley, born about 1808 at Fairfax, Virginia and died before 1863 at Leavenworth, Kansas, daughter of Benjamin and Lucy Jones (Newman) Berkley. Abram married secondly about 1863, Tennessee Pierce born about 1827 at Springfield, Illinois and died after 1880., daughter of Charles R. and Malinda (Anderson) Pierce. Abram was a grocer, lawyer, and judge. He was also the Republican state legislator for Kansas in 1863. By his first wife he had: James W., Lucy N., Martha Ann, Berkley, Catherine, Virginia, Hannah, Julia Berkley, and Charles. By his second wife he had: Tennessee, Abraham, Benjamin, Keziah, Eugene, and Mabel.
- Julia Berkley Brown born 11 September 1844 at Pekin, Illinois, and died 9 September 1917 at Sulphur Springs, Arkansas. She married first Charles Clarkson (Jr.), born 1839 in Pennsylvania and died after 1874 at Salina, Kansas, son of Charles C. and Matilda Wyckoff (Schureman) Clarkson. Julia married secondly about 1885, Dr. Wesley Otis Young, born about 1840 in Ohio and died after 1917. By her first husband, Julia was the mother of three: Maria Bridget, Edward Bradley, and Vida Hamlin.
